Since its very beginning, DCCK has built all its initiatives around a simple premise: everybody has a skill, a gift, a role.
In my opinion, a great nonprofit simply reveals what was there all along. We’ve done that for 23 years by using the food our society threw away, kitchen space that was underutilized, volunteers who wanted to be part of something powerful, chefs who had food…but also jobs, partner agencies that wanted to use their limited resources to liberate people (versus buying food) and money meant to move the needle. We didn’t have to build anything new, because ALL that was already there….we just chose to employ a more powerful equation for these ‘existing ingredients”.
BUT…the most important asset we employed were, and remain, the people our society undervalues; the poor, the unemployed, the homeless and the formerly incarcerated.
Recently, our friends at Run Riot Films produced a short video highlighting just some of the men and women we have worked side x side with to create meals, foster change, empower our city and KICK HUNGERS ASS.
Please follow the link…and ENJOY the power of believing in people.
